On behalf of the Ted Rogers School of Management and the Ryerson Commerce Society, we thank your consideration in allowing your child to participate in RCS Frosh 2011. It is our desire to ensure that you are provided with all the information required to make an informed decision about what will likely be your son or daughter’s most memorable university experience.
Since its inception in August 2003, over 2000 students have participated in RCS Frosh Orientation Week. This week long event is one of the very best ways for students to make new friends, learn about Ryerson University and positively start off their university experience.
Frosh is no way, shape or form a “hazing” activity. With over 135 trained leaders and organizers, all of which current Ted Rogers School of Management students, you can be fully assured that your child’s safety and well being are among our top concerns. Ryerson University has an extensive risk management plan, and an on call EMS team in case of emergencies. An additional preventative measure was taken by Frosh leaders by attending mandatory meetings regarding risk assessment and management, and how to take necessary steps to respond to nearly any situation.
Ryerson Commerce Frosh begins on TUESDAY AUGUST 30 – FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 2nd, 2011. This does conflict with some of the scheduled events for the campus wide orientation; however please note that the two events are not the same. Ryerson Commerce Frosh 2011 is ONLY for Commerce students while Ryerson Orientation Week is for all of Ryerson. The benefits of attending the RCS Frosh 2011 are quite extensive. Your child will be interacting with other commerce students that he or she is about to spend the next 4 years with. Also, the organizers of RCS Frosh Week have worked hard to collaborate on some of the best events ensuring that your child does not miss any exciting opportunities.
There are only 400 spots and an $80 fee to participate in RCS Frosh 2011. This limit and cost exists to address space issues and help cover the cost of T-Shirts, prizes, giveaways, swag, the hypnotist, venues, DJs and of course our finale boat cruise around Toronto Harbour! The price also covers, dinner and lunch (inclusive food) and at both in school and out off campus day (Ontario Place). The Ryerson Commerce Society and the Ted Rogers School of Management pick up the remaining costs. Organizers and event planners are strictly volunteer positions; none of which are paid to fulfill the position. The reason we organize Frosh is because we have all taken part in this event in the past and know the value of participation.
We hope the information we have provided has answered most of your questions. However, if there is any concern that we have not addressed, please feel free to contact us via telephone (416 979 5000 x4217) or E-Mail (vp.internal at rcsonline.ca) for more details. With over 1700 incoming students and only 400 spots, you will want to register at first opportunity to avoid any disappointment. Thank you for your time.
Dear Parents of Ted Rogers School of Business Management (TRSBM) whose surnames begin with Q-Z only,
You may have noticed that your child’s orientation for the School coincides with the beginning of Frosh registration activities. This was a scheduling error that cannot be corrected at this time. In an effort to accommodate those new students who wish to attend all Frosh activities yet are expected to attend Orientation from 3-4:30, please be advised that the School will welcome those students whose surnames begin with Q-Z and who have pre-registered for Frosh, to the earlier Orientation time. We certainly endorse participation in Frosh, and on behalf of the School I apologize for the error and any inconvenience. We look forward to a successful and fulfilling year!
Sincerely,
Professor D. Schlanger
